Långbro Asylum

The first patient to arrive at the newly opened Långbro hospital in December 1909 came to one of Europe's most neoteric mental hospitals. The facility was built on a roughly 50-acre land area one mile south of Stockholm.

The city of Stockholm was the originator of the new mental hospital. 1902, the city had acquired a land area of 56 acres in the southern part of the municipality. Ideally located in scenic surroundings and with the new and vital freshwater pipeline from Norsborg's waterworks. Old Södertäljevägen, the city's main road to the south, passed next door and would give the new hospital excellent communications.

Today, the area has been transformed into a unique residential area with schools, a restaurant, a pond and a large park area.
